To DominicAs long as he continues to challenge himself on the musical path he believes in, I have nothing to say. I just want to see how high his music can go as a result. Personally, I have three dreams I’d like him to fulfil, but I haven’t even told him about them yet, so I’d like to tell him directly when I get the chance.
What I like to doTravelling alone to see museums and architecture. Go to a concert. Go to the seaside or mountains where there are few people. Play with my dog🐶
And watch football. ⚽️ I was a football fan long before there was a J-League and I support Japan and Argentina in the World Cup -This has nothing to do with Dominic being from Argentina. I saw Maradona in Mexico in 1986 live on air and Gabriel Batistuta was my hero. So I went to see Argentina play in the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea. But Argentina went out in the group stage and I cried with Batistuta.
Relationship with musicMy mother was a classical piano teacher. I think she studied quite seriously for a Japanese at that time. My sister also studied music from junior high school to university, so I grew up in a house where the piano was played from morning till midnight for about 25 years from the time I was born.
My musical careerPlayed piano from the age of 2.5 to 10 years, solfege and ear training. I then switched to wind instruments, mainly the flute, and studied classical music until I graduated from university. However, at the age of 12 I was struck by Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and became interested in rock and jazz, playing in bands from junior high school.
I considered going to music college, but decided against it because of my parents’ policy of never allow to play anything other than classical music. Since I started working, I mostly specialize in listening, but I have recently started playing the piano again. It is to learn musical expression.
Instruments I can playFlute, Drums, Piano. I’ve only ever played acoustic instruments that don’t go through an amplifier.
Recent musical activitiesI played the piano for the first time in about 40 years. I thought I wouldn’t be able to move my fingers at all, but surprisingly that’s OK. I guess it’s because of the strict lessons my mother gave me when I was child.😁
Recently,I play classical music and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s songs, and I’ve started studying music theory and composition a bit. I want to be able to play like Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny Group). Other than that, I occasionally write articles about various types of music for a jazz website.
A word on music in generalMy mother only accepted classical music, so we often fought. But there is one thing I am very grateful for. She took me to a lot of the world-class classical concerts when until age 12. I think that experience still has a huge impact on me today, it opened my ears to music and defined the way I think about sound.
Recent favourite songA Gift” by Iiro Rantala, one of Finland’s leading Jazz pianists. It’s an irregular trio piece with piano, violin and cello, but I liked it a lot because of the humour and the joy of life.
